Legal
Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: July 2026
Legally Rent creates legally significant documents — stamped, Aadhaar-signed rental agreements — and moves real money. That only works if everyone plays it straight. This policy is part of our Terms of Service; breaking it can mean suspension, termination, cancelled documents, and where the law requires it, reports to the authorities.
1. Be who you say you are
- Use your own identity. Never complete Aadhaar KYC or e-sign for another person, and never invite someone into a lease using identity details that aren’t theirs.
- Give true information in agreements — names, addresses, rent, deposit, dates. The agreement is a legal instrument; false entries are on you.
- One person, real accounts. Don’t create accounts to impersonate, evade a suspension, or manufacture fake tenancy history.
2. Stamp duty integrity
Stamp duty is computed by us from the rent and deposit you enter, at the state-prescribed rate, and paid to the government in full. You must not:
- misstate rent, deposit or duration to reduce the duty payable;
- split or restructure a tenancy on paper to evade duty or registration; or
- ask us (or our document writers) to stamp at less than the computed amount — we will refuse, every time.
Under-stamping with intent to defraud the revenue is an offence that can reach everyone involved in preparing the instrument — including you. Our systems recompute duty from the lease of record precisely so this cannot happen quietly.
3. Money
- Use payment methods you are authorised to use.
- Rent collection and deposit links are for the tenancy on record — not for moving unrelated money.
- No money-laundering, no collecting payments for tenancies that don’t exist.
4. Respect the platform
- No probing, scanning or testing the security of the service without written permission; no access to accounts or data that aren’t yours.
- No scraping, bulk-harvesting, reselling of data, or automated account creation.
- No uploading malware or unlawful content, and no using our communications (email/WhatsApp invites, KYC links) to spam or deceive anyone.
5. Respect other people
- Tenant screening runs only with the tenant’s informed consent, for a genuine tenancy decision — never for stalking, discrimination barred by law, or any purpose the tenant didn’t consent to.
- Maintenance tickets and messages are for the tenancy — harassment or abuse gets an account closed.
6. What happens on breach
Depending on severity: a warning, feature suspension, account termination, cancellation of in-flight documents (with refunds per the Refund Policy — noting that fraud forfeits refunds of our fees), and reporting where the law requires. You indemnify Chaosology Technologies Private Limited for losses caused by your breach of this policy — see the indemnity clause in the Terms.
7. Reporting misuse
